Sony PlayStation Showcase Slated for September
Earlier this month, we suggested, based on rumours, that a PlayStation Showcase could possibly happen in the month of August. Though fans expected a showcase to happen throughout the month or at least get a crumb in terms of an announcement date, there was no announcement date announced or PlayStation Showcase for that matter. This information was highlighted from rumours by an inside of the gaming industry, Nick Baker, who suggested at the time that the date for the Showcase could be moved farther, and it appears Sony exactly did that, or Nick Baker wasn’t sure about it. From the get-go, this rumour did seem a bit unrealistic considering the fact that Sony is known to hold its PlayStation Showcase in the month of September. August is reaching an end, and there’s new key information that further strengthens information that the Showcase might, in fact, happen in September. Either way, August is literally about to come to an end so the supposed PlayStation Showcase could happen in September and prior information does suggest that. Despite the rumours and leaks, we can expect the PlayStation Showcase as a consequence of Sony’s past behavioural patterns. For two years, PlayStation has held its showcases in the month of September, and it possibly won’t be different this time around either. Although they’ve been held for only two years, the PlayStation Showcases really set a high bar for Sony’s events as they were much more epic and larger than the State of Play events. It was at the last event that Sony and its partners introduced us to a number of showcases for game titles such as Alan Awake Remastered, Gran Turismo 7, Guardians of the Galaxy, the delayed KOTOR remake, God of War Ragnarok, Wolverine and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Getting to see so many AAA titles set for the PlayStation platform made the PlayStation Showcase all the more exciting, and considering the next PlayStation Showcase might be just a few days away, it’s creating hype with some confusion mixed with anticipation in the gaming community. A number of sources have stated that the PlayStation Showcase is set for September 8. Nick Baker, via his own source, also affirmed this information which he shared online featuring an all-black screen. This event is expected to take place right before the upcoming Disney and Marvel Showcase at the D23 event, which takes place on September 9. If the news turns out to be true, fans will have a good few days.
— Nick (@Shpeshal_Nick) August 22, 2022 If we’re talking about any other company, then we’d get an announcement date a bit sooner as we’d hope, but Sony is known to make its announcement when their events are just right around the corner. Keeping its tradition going, most of Sony’s State of Play’s are announced at the beginning of the week they take place. If Sony announces the event on Monday or Tuesday, it happens on Wednesday or Thursday. The 2020 showcase event was announced just four days before the event happened, while the 2021 PlayStation showcase was revealed just a week before the event. We might get to see more of God of War Ragnarok’s new and improved gameplay system that’s stated to feature loads of verticality akin to the original trilogy of the God of War series. If Santa Monica lets us, we might also get to see the actual in-game rendition of the AllFather, Odin for the upcoming God of War Sequel. Although the KOTOR Remake has been delayed, it’s quite possible that fans might see some story insights for the title that’s still in development. And as for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, fans might get to see gameplay following the reveal trailer for the game. We wonder what changes Insomniac Games will introduce to the next generation iteration of the Spider-Man franchise. There’s no doubt in our minds that fans will be excited about a potential PlayStation Showcase. If it happened two years in a row, it’s bound to take place once again. But fans should take heed as these are currently just rumours. If the event is actually taking place, fans should expect to hear about an announcement date at the beginning of September. For now, take all the information with a grain of salt. Fans still need to get through the rest of the month to find out whether all of this information is true or false. So, are you anticipating a PlayStation Showcase considering all the information? Let us know in the comments below. We upload daily on Appuals, so stay tuned for more. Till then, see you later and goodbye!
