$50 Million is not an amount to take lightly. In Jensen’s eyes, AI is similar to a time machine. Workloads that took days to finish are now showing results within a few hours. Weather forecasting is a prime example of how AI can help predict the future. Our minds are incredible, although inferior when put up against modern AI. Scientists need this technology more than any of us. An example can be the medical department. With diseases such as cancer on the rise, the world as a whole will only benefit if AI is incorporated to such important fields. Sadly, most universities lack the budget to finance such projects. This is where Jensen and his wife’s donation takes the spotlight. This argument is not limited to just a few fields. Physics requires the correlation between relativity and the quantum theory. Computer science would need monumental changes in how we design our silicon if we want to keep up with the ever so increasing processing demands. The world of astronomy demands that we revolutionise optics and image processing techniques to capture objects millions of light years away. The End of Moore’s Law?

Jensen states that the semiconductor industry is at it’s limit. There is a physical restriction to how much we can shrink transistors. Scaling past the size of an atom is a tedious process when you factor in quantum tunnelling. This relates back to Jensen’s initial stance of increasing the facilities for scientists. If we have access to capable enough machinery, simulating the insides of a modern microprocessor is not a tough job. ~Jensen Huang via the protocol Making chips more efficient is also a part of NVIDIA’s future roadmap. Protocol highlights that data centers are already chugging up a significant amount of the world’s total power. In addition, Moore’s law is coming to its limits, however, companies like Intel are trying their best to keep it alive. Definition wise, Moore’s law only demands an increase in the transistor count. However, if we add performance to the equation, Moore’s law can still stay alive if we use stacking technologies (AMD’s V-Cache), smaller transitors (<3nm) and Artificial Intelligence (DLSS).

Conclusion

Jensen has been working round the clock to increase NVIDIA’s offerings for the AI segment of the market. Even desktop GPUs have seen the same treatment with the addition of Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS).
